West News Wire: Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, has said that the various criminal charges brought against former President Donald Trump are the result of “politically-motivated persecution” on the part of his Democratic opponents. This exposes the dishonest political system that is currently in place in the US.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin claimed that the various legal actions that the US justice system has brought against Trump were an act of political retaliation by his opponents, demonstrating the deep-seated corruption that exists in US politics.

As for Trump, Putin stated, “For us, what is happening in the current circumstances is good because it demonstrates the rootedness of the American political system, which cannot pretend to teach others democracy.”

Trump, who is the frontrunner Republican candidate for the 2024 US presidential elections, is stuck in a mire of criminal cases lodged against him. Among other things, he is charged with making an attempt to overturn his 2020 election defeat to Biden.

“Everything that is happening with Trump is the persecution of a political rival for political reasons. That’s what it is. And this is being done in front of the public of the United States and the whole world,” the Russian leader added.

If re-elected, Trump, who once claimed to have strong relations with the leader of Russia, has vowed to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

“We hear Mr. Trump promise to resolve urgent issues, like the Ukrainian crisis, in a few days. Well, this can only make people happy. This is great,” stated Putin.

In contrast, and relevant to Putin’s claim, the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives authorised an impeachment investigation of President Joe Biden on Tuesday.

Democratic lawmakers have criticised the Republicans’ action as an effort to avenge Democratic Vice President Joe Biden for the double impeachment of Trump in 2017 and 2019 while the latter was in office.
