West News Wire: Former President Donald Trump turned himself in to police in Atlanta on Thursday night. He is one of 19 defendants that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has charged with trying to rig Georgia’s 2020 presidential election.
While some raise legal objections, the remaining 18 defendants in the case are also in the process of turning themselves in so they can be arrested and released by Friday at noon.
Trump’s arrest photo is the first thing he’s posted on social media since January 8, 2021, according to his X account.
Trump was suspended from X then known as Twitter following the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. He hadn’t tweeted since new owner Elon Musk reinstated his Twitter account in November 2022 instead using his Truth Social platform to post messages.
Trump posted his mug shot on Truth Social as well.
Both posts linked to Trump’s 2024 campaign website, where the mug shot was also used as part of a fundraising pitch.
In remarks prior to boarding his flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Trump stated that he had the right to contest an election if “we think is dishonest.”
Trump continued to falsely assert that the election had been rigged, saying, “We did nothing wrong.
He declared, “We have every right to contest the election.
