West News Wire: Authorities said that a shooting at a home in southeast Texas on Friday night resulted in the deaths of five individuals, among them a youngster.
Around 11:30 p.m., police were called to a shooting in the 100 block of Walters Road in Cleveland’s Trails End neighbourhood.
According to the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, a complaint of harassment at a residence close to Walters Road and Seth Boulevard was received.
Deputies reported finding many shot victims when they arrived, ranging in age from 8 to 40. All of the victims, according to investigators, are Hondurans.
Francisco Oropeza, 39, was the suspect, and police said they think he was drunk when he started firing an AR-15 from his front porch. Neighbours then requested Oropeza to be quiet because they had a baby who was trying to sleep, according to deputies.
Oropeza was agitated by the request to stop firing shots and began shooting inside a home with 10 people present, according to deputies.
The sheriff’s office said in total, five people are dead, including an 8-year-old.
Sheriff Greg Capers told Eyewitness News that the victims were shot from the neck up, “almost execution style.”
“When we got here, the two females in the bedroom were laying on top of two of three younger (surviving) children,” Sheriff Greg Capers said.
One of the victims was taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Authorities claimed that despite the fact that three further patients arrived at the hospital covered in blood, they were unharmed.
Oropeza is a Hispanic man with a height of 5 feet 8 inches, according to deputies. He was last seen with work boots, a black shirt, and pants on. He has short black hair and a goatee, according to investigators.
A judge set a $5 million bond and issued an arrest warrant for Oropeza. Authorities think Oropeza is now within a two-mile radius of the incident and fled on foot or by bicycle.
