West News Wire: According to a non-profit research organisation, there have been over 14,000 gun-related deaths in the US so far this year, or an average of over 111 deaths each day. 

According to the most recent report from the Gun Violence Archive, 4,266 individuals died in homicides, murders, accidental discharges, and defensive gun use, while 5,742 people killed themselves with firearms. 

According to the tracker, 347 teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17 and 59 children under the age of 11 perished in such situations.  

According to the research, there have been 130 mass shootings so far this year, and the number has dramatically increased in recent years.

The killing occurred at a time when communities around the country are in shock following a string of school shootings, including the massacre at an elementary school in Texas last year, which resulted in the deaths of 19 kids and two instructors.

On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden urged Congress to pass comprehensive legislation to solve the nation’s gun epidemic. 

He pleaded with the US Congress on Monday to reinstate the 1994–2004 assault weapons prohibition. 

Republicans who are ardent supporters of the right to bear weapons have opposed Biden’s request for the prohibition to be reinstalled. 

A Gallup poll from October 2022 showed a majority of Americans are in favor of gun control, with a 57% majority of all Americans saying they want stricter laws covering the sale of firearms.
