West News Wire: Medical sources told the Reuters news agency that Israeli forces killed two Palestinians during a raid on a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank city of Jericho.
The director of the Jericho Hospital told Reuters on Tuesday that “two young men were rushed to the hospital with bullets in their chests.”
Qusay al-Walaji, 16, and Mohammed Nujoom, 25, were shot in the chest by Israeli soldiers “during an attack on Jericho at dawn today,” according to the Palestinian health ministry. This was the first deadly raid on Jericho in months.
It was unknown whether the two dead males were involved in the armed skirmishes with Israeli soldiers, according to local residents in the neighbourhood.
The residents also stated that the raid lasted less than an hour.
As a result of Israeli raids on refugee camps in the region, lethal Jewish settler attacks on Palestinian towns, and Palestinian street attacks on Israelis, violence in the occupied West Bank has gotten worse during the past few months.
According to the French news agency AFP, the two fatalities in Jericho brought the total number of Palestinians killed by Israeli troops this year to 216.
According to an AFP count collated from official sources on both sides, there have also been 28 Israelis, one Ukrainian, and one Italian killed.
An AFP inquiry for comment on the most recent deaths received no immediate response from the Israeli military.
