West News Wire: In the United States, there have been five mass shootings in the first four days of September.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been at least 484 mass shootings in the United States so far this year. This amounts to roughly two mass shootings daily on average.
According to the archive, a mass shooting is a situation in which four or more people are shot or killed.
Even though they don’t constitute the bulk of gun violence episodes in America, mass shootings clearly have an impact on the communities and people they affect.
Mass shootings like those that occurred in Dallas, Nashville, Buffalo, and Uvalde, Texas, among other cities, continue to leave communities in mourning and have led to repeated calls for gun control.
Approximately 645 mass shootings were documented by the Gun Violence Archive in 2022 and 690 in 2021.
Last year at this time, there had been 455 mass shootings around the nation.
In a shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, three individuals were hurt in addition to the two fatalities. According to officials, a total of five people with gunshot wounds arrived at the UAB hospital on Monday, Sept. 4. While at the UAB hospital, three of the victims came under fire, which caused damage to an emergency room door and a police patrol car.
In Washington, D.C., a drive-by shooting occurred early on July 5 as locals were still enjoying the Fourth of July holiday, injuring nine individuals, according to authorities.
The shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. ET on Meade Street in the northeastern quadrant of the U.S. capital, according to the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia.
All nine victims have non-life-threatening injuries. Two are children, ages 9 and 17, according to officials.
A suspect clad in a bulletproof vest and carrying a rifle and multiple rounds of ammunition opened fire in Philadelphia on July 3, killing at least five people and wounding two children, authorities said. The youngest of the deceased victims was only 15 years old.
At least three people were killed and eight others were injured in a shooting on July 3 following an annual July 4 event called ComoFest in Fort Worth, Texas, police said.
