West News Wire: According to authorities, an Israeli soldier shot a Palestinian man after an alleged stabbing incident in West Jerusalem.

According to a police statement, a Palestinian armed with a knife stabbed an Israeli man on Saturday.

The attacker was shot and killed by Israeli authorities, according to the statement, which did not disclose his condition.

The Israeli, in his mid-30s, was lightly injured, according to Magen David Adom emergency services.

Its spokeswoman, Zaki Heller, said the assailant was a 20-year-old Palestinian male who was evacuated “in bad condition.”

The assailant’s bloodied clothing was collected by police.

Dozens of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in recent months for allegedly attempting to carry out stabbing or car-ramming attacks. Palestinian rights groups, meanwhile, accuse the Israeli forces of deliberately killing Palestinians with no risk to their lives.

Earlier this month, Israeli police shot dead two Palestinian assailants who allegedly stabbed officers in two separate incidents in Jerusalem’s Old City.

On March 7, Israeli forces shot dead a young Palestinian man after he allegedly stabbed two officers.

Israel charged four Palestinians from East al-Quds with acts of terrorism and promoting Hamas operations in the city, Haaretz reported Friday.

Israel captured East Jerusalem in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it, in a move not recognised by most of the international community.

Hamas praised the operation, stating that the incident demonstrates “an uptick in resistance against the occupation across the occupied territories.”

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said residents of “the holy city [of al-Quds] will continue to struggle for its liberation, and expulsion of the occupying army and settlers.”

“The spirit of sacrifice possessed by our young generation is a firm guarantee that our blessed revolution will eventually emerge triumphant over usurping Zionists,” he said.

The stabbing follows several similar incidents in the Old City of al-Quds over the past few weeks.
